I live in the Opequon Magisterial District and I am against the teaching of Deep Equity (DE) aka Critical Race Theory (CRT). This belief system is heavily influenced by the context of the 1619 project. The 1619 project fails to acknowledge that West African tribes captured East African tribes for the slave trade. When they were no longer able to capture their tribal adversaries the West Africans then became the victims of the slave trade. African tribes continue to fight each other today because of ethnicity and religion.
However, DE/CRT teaching blames the white race for all of society’s ills because of slavery’s supposed influence from history. The proponents of this teaching claim that racism is pervasive in America and that all of American institutions are racist. Pushing this ideology is forced indoctrination in schools across this country. Frederick county needs to stand against it.
The Virginia Association of Independent Schools even bullied educators in an email:
“Lots of books will make you feel comfortable with your whiteness and whiteness in general, even for people of color. White fragility needs to take a back seat. Fall back Karen. It’s time to talk about dismantling white supremacy culture and bringing folks of color (the global majority) to the center.”
These kinds of bullying statements and the DE teaching try to give the impression that our society reflects apartheid and that is false. This ideology pushes the false narrative that black people are oppressed and are victims of the ‘system’. We have black people in jobs in every sphere of our society today.
As a black woman, I have never been oppressed. No one stopped me from getting my doctorate in medicine. No one. Have I experienced racism? Yes, from black as well as white people. Racism is rooted in ignorance and has no socio-economic bounds.
Frederick County needs to stand against using racist propaganda curricula in our schools.
As a resident of Redbud Magisterial District, I am writing to support maintaining the $.61 real estate tax rate, in order to provide the funding for numerous needs in Frederick County. Our tax rate is low, and for many years, increasing that rate has been rejected by the Board of Supervisors. Due to the increased worth of our homes, our taxes will finally increase a small amount, and for most of us with modest homes, that amounts to only a few dollars/month. For the county, that generates the funds needed to support our schools, our fire department, and our police.
I was extremely concerned by an article in the 2/26/21 edition of the Winchester Star. Under no circumstance should the FCPS budget be reduced to bare bones. Such a budget demonstrates that our Board of Supervisors undervalues a quality public education. We are a growing community that has attracted young couples to us (rather than Loudon and Fairfax), due to our low Cost of Living. If we wish to keep these young families, and attract and retain a quality teaching and support staff, a meager school budget can not be considered.
As residents of Frederick County, we recognize that we have a low residential tax rate. We desire our elected officials to respectfully fund the basics, giving back to us as the taxpayers you represent. I support a full funding of the FCPS proposed budget, and would encourage the County Board of Supervisors to do so, as well.
I am an employee of Frederick County Public Schools and have been for the last 13 years. I find it appauling that The Board of Supervisors for Fredrick County Virginia would do anything other than pass the 2021-2022 Budget for the public school system. Its outright ridiculous that Supervisor Graber and Supervisor McCarthy have any thing negative to say in what is given to the school systems since neither have children in the system. Have you looked at a online realtor site lately? The first thing that scrolls up after the value of your home is community and the VERY FIRST LISTING IS SCHOOLS!!!! So continue to defund public education, continue to not pay YOUR FREDERTICK COUNTY EMPLOYEES, YES I SAID FREDERICK COUNTY EMPLOYEES competitive wages and your schools will start to decline! The next thing to go will be your homes values! WITHOUT GOOD SCHOOLS, FAMILES DO NOT MOVE TO THIS AREA! Without excellent Teachers guiding your children to think of future ares of employment and services not to mention the Instructional aides, secretaries, computer specislist, Librians, nurses, to interact with them to teach them the proper way to interact with society and how to get along with in it .The bus drivers who are up early before the sun to check engines and lights and tires in rain and freezing cold to keep them safe on the road, to the custodians who mop and clean fix and pitch in when ever and where ever we need them especially sanitizing rooms and surfaces to keep all of us safe. What about the Cafeteria staff who come in early to feed not once but two times a day the children of this county remembering for quite a few its the only meals they will get that day. How about Councelors who listen and hear voices that sometines just need an ear. I suppose NONE of these are FREDERICK COUTY employees either? NONE OF THESE AWESOME PEOPLE ARE WORTH THE MONEY? YOUR CHILDREN ARE NOT WORTH IT? PASS THE SCHOOL BUDGET WE NEED TO KEEP OUR SCHOOLS AMAZING!!!!
I am writing to request an opportunity to address the Frederick County Board of Supervisors at their next meeting on Wednesday March 10th at 7pm.
The Top of Virginia Regional Chamber was contacted by a concerned member regarding the amount of business that is conducted between our local government entities and local businesses. We have spoken with representatives from the City of Winchester, Clarke County and Frederick County and would like to propose an initiative to utilize as many products and services from local providers as possible. This will not require any changes to existing purchasing and procurement other than focusing on exploring local options whenever possible.
We ask to present the initiative to the Board of Supervisors so that we can promote the idea through the local media and all TVRC outlets. The TVRC will put together an educational session that would allow local businesses to learn the process of bidding, RFP’s and RFQ’s and invite local representatives to present as well.
I would be happy to share a copy of the Local Procurement Initiative for your review if you can let me know where to send it. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
John Fox
