I am a resident in Sunnyside of the Stonewall District.
I worked for The Frederick County Fire and Rescue system from September 2015 to November of 2018 before accepting a position with Prince William County Department of Fire and Rescue. One of my deciding factors in parting ways with FCFRD was the staffing levels and the compensation. I worked with some of the best people the Fire and Rescue system has to offer and while understaffed, we made it work the best with what we had in those situations. While responding to an emergency with a driver and a bucket firefighter may seem fun it can have fatal results. Adequate staffing levels in Frederick County would help secure the safety of its members on incidents, especially with such a large stretch of I81 running through the county. As the county continues to grow with more and more people moving to the area, FCFRD cannot continue to operate in the same manner it was operating in 10 years ago.
I encourage you to approve FCFRDs staffing requests before low staffing levels and an increase in emergency calls have an unfortunate outcome where a member does not return home to their family.
