When we had to choose where we would settle, the choice was between Warren County and Frederick County. It became Frederick County because it had the better schools.
After a few years I started my own company here - so the county got tax revenue it otherwise would not have had. When I ask the other companies that my company does do business with, 'why did you settle in Frederick County?' then the answer is, besides 'location' - 'there are well educated people here' - people willing to settle here because of the schools...
For business owners like me, County level taxes are a lesser factor than infrastructure and access to resources (willing to live here). The question for the Supervisors of Frederick County is therefore: are you pro business, willing to provide infrastructure and a good climate (which includes decent schools) - or do you want to be slow growth, agricultural like the poor counties in Appalachia?
My adult children graduated from Frederick Co. Schools. All went to college one has a master in Library science, one has 2 masters and going for his doctorate and one is a supervisor in the Federal Government. 25% of the budget taken from our schools will change lives and some will be destroyed! Teachers are going to leave and go where they can make up for this decrease. Class sizes are already too large and they will become even larger. Some members on this board have no children in our public school system. Should they be able to vote on this very large decrease? The children have already had the horrible experience with Covid. Our taxes should be able to support the schools! Where do you plan to spend the 22 million dollars you take from our children? I'm sure many as well as myself want to know the answer. Just remember CHILDREN ARE OUR FUTURE!!!!!!!!!!
Do not use the school budget in a political powerplay. We deserve better. Having good public schools is essential for our community. The budget proposed by the school board is solid. Approve it.
I live in the Stonewall District and our youngest is a senior at the overcrowded JWHS.
