12.C) Conditional Use Permit #05-22 for SPBJJ, LLC Submitted for the Establishment of an Indoor Recreation Use. The Subject Property is Located at 210 Fort Collier Road, Winchester and is Identified with Property Identification Number (PIN) 54-A-81C in the Stonewall Magisterial District.
The folks behind this establishment are some of the most dedicated martial artists you will find across the globe. They provide an elite program of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu/self defense which has proven effective on a competitive level amongst adults and youths. All the instructors involved are a pleasure to work with and truly provide a great family environment for their community. I fully support SPBJJ.
I moved to the area (live in Winchester City Limits) in 2018 and SPBJJ has been my home away from home. Their partnership with local law enforcement, veterans, as well as other organizations shows the character of the owners/coaches - which translates directly to the quality of the training, and character of the people that are members of, or visit SPBJJ. SPBJJ also received the Winchester Star Award for Martial Arts Gym this past year which shows how the community supports what they do. I personally joined because of the quality of coaching as well as the approachability of the coaches and owners. It is an extremely welcoming and open place to train. Sharkpit has continued to grow over the years (even despite the pandemic), which is why we are showing our support here. Their growth is another testament to the ownership, coaching, quality, and community involvement.
1000% support!! The area needs more fitness avenues, especially Sharkpit BJJ!! Along with a person's house and vocation, Sharkpit BJJ is literally a third home for its local athletes-- even when athletes visit from states away just to train at Sharkpit speaks volumes of how their instruction is sought after. They truly want to see everyone grow and improve!! I pray that this conditional use gets approved for the sake of all the people that they train. I'm fairly new to their establishment and can honestly say, it is my observation that they lead a wonderful group of committed people who just want a place to train jiujitsu with expert instructors - not just ANY place, at Sharkpit BJJ!!
SPBJJ does so many things for the community and I would like to see them continue to have an even bigger positive impact for many years to come! They offer so many programs for all ages, kids to adults, while also providing a space for law enforcement and those related, a space to further their training for work and a better life!
SPBJJ is a tool the community uses to become stronger and smarter. Management is top notch and dedicated to the customer. The culture is one of self improvement and teamwork. The lessons learned transfer so we'll to daily life.
SPBJJ has been committed to serving the community from the very start. 50% off discounts for Law Enforcement, Fire & First Responders, and Active Duty Military. Free scholarships and uniforms to kids at the Boys and Girls Club. Partnership with the Adopt-A-Cop Charity to provide Police Officers free training. Partnership with the We Defy charity to provide free training to Veterans. Free seminars for Police organizations. Regular free Women-led open mat events for Women. Sponsorship of a local little league team.
The friendly professionals at SPBJJ have also built a community with entire families coming to train. The gym is true cross-section of the community with young and old from all demographics forming bonds and cresting understanding and respect that transcends the divisions we see everywhere else. All of this around a positive and healthy endeavor that strives to give back to the community at every opportunity.
Lastly, I am a partially disabled multi-tour Combat Veteran having served from Private to Major in the Army. I firmly believe that without SPBJJ I would be much more sure socially isolated and even more physically disabled by now through inactivity. There are many others like me in the gym. I firmly believe that belonging to a team and sharing adversity while learning and training together in something larger than ourselves again has been critical to the successful healthy transition to civilian life for many of our Veterans. That we go forth as a team, and form social bonds through BJJ, and have won multiple large regional tournaments, while seeing our brothers and sisters in BJJ grow with us , with a little bit of rough and tumble, is exactly what Veterans need after leaving the service.
Overall, BJJ in general, and Shark Pit in specific, enriches the lives of many in our community and I highly recommend you approve this business.
SPBJJ or Shark Pit JiuJitsu has been instrumental to me. I moved to Frederick County (Stephens City, Precinct 502) in January. Everyone at SPBJJ has welcomed me like family. This Martial Arts Gymn has been more than just physical exercise and self-defense instruction. This Gymn has allowed me to be a part of the community. People from all walks of life attend this Gymn and are welcome. Shark Pit has given me the confidence to compete at 38 years old and has helped to fill the void and sense of a lack of purpose left by my medical separation from the Marine Corps. Shark Pit has been as helpful to me mentally as it has physically, I am more centered and calm when I am training consistently. The coaches and instructors have let me know about the town events like the apple blossom festival and many routinely invite the students over for social gatherings. Shark Pit JiuJitsu is a family, a family that is accepting and welcoming, a family that contributes to the community in many ways. Shark Pit allows and accepts the veterans organization We Defy which pays tuition for veterans who need financial help. What Shark Pit offers the Winchester area is more than can be quantified by revenue. Shark pit is a place that changes lives of all ages and all walks of life for the betterment of society as a whole.
I am in support of SPBJJ receiving their conditional use permit to further their business and support of community members. I have seen the positive impact their owners, coaches, and members make and believe permitting this action will only allow for their positive impact to grow exponentially.
As a Law Enforcement Officer, training at Shark Pit BJJ has been highly advantageous and beneficial. The team and program at Shark Pit are highly professional, and knowledgeable and provide an excellent service to the community!
The people applying for this permit have created something special. The entire staff and those who train with them are the most generous and welcoming group I have the pleasure of spending time with. The model they have created will continue to grow the business and generate revenue in the local economy. The approval of this application will allow them to provide a safe place for people grow and learn.
SPBJJ LLC is definitely an inspiration and place for people to continuously push themselves to be their best selves. It's a healthy outlet. Through their classes I've seen people transform into positive, radiant beings that we need more of in this world. I fully support them and their ventures!

Great job Shark Pit on expanding and adding programs for the kids, families, and community. What a team!

This business would be great for the community as well as it's citizens, both youths and adults. I strongly urge approval and support!
