13.A) Conditional Use Permit #09-23 for Getaway House, Inc., (M.M.T. Limited) for a Campground with Up to 90 Year-Round Portable Micro-Cabin Campsites. The Property is Located at 427 McCubbin Road (Route 653) Winchester, Virginia and are Identified with Property Identification Numbers 15-A-3, 15-A-8, 15-A-9, 15-A-10 and 15-A-11 in the Gainesboro Magisterial District. (Public Hearing was held October 25, 2023, with action postponed to November 8.)
My property adjoins getaway house. I would like to ask the owner what the plans are for the 375 acres that are not being used for the campground. I fear there is another use for these 375 acres of which we are unaware. Why would you buy 400 acres of land if you’re only going to need 25 acres to put up 90 mini cabins?
I am also concerned about my well water, the only source of water for me. I would like to see more information on how much water 90 mini cabins are going to draw from the aquifer?
This is Suzy Bauer and my husband Marcus Roberts. We live at 259 Mccubbin Road. We bought this house in 2014 as our retirement home. Now it is being proposed to build a mobile campground with 90 sights. Mccubbin Road is a rural dirt road that is not properly maintained by the state. Getaway proposes improvements to the road working with VDot. My biggest concern is the increase in traffic on this country road. 90 extra cars daily coming and going as well as the many people who use this road to get to their destination. Also the intersection of Mccubbin Road and Greenspring Road is not safe. If you are not familar with the traffic patterns you will most likely have problems pulling onto Greenspring Road. 90 sights are too many for this neighorhood. This would change our way of life in a negative way. I do not support the 90 sights. Also a concern is the water supply and how it will be impacted with this added campground. Also it is not just Mccubbin Road residents. This will impact Greenspring Road and Apple Pie Ridge Road residents as well as the West Virginia side of Mccubbin Hollow Road. Gateway is using the road improvement and taxes as a way to encourage people to support this project. Well my husband and I are not impressed with their proposal.
Thanks for considering our concerns. We are in the Gainsboro District.
