Quality of life, property values: troubling issues. As residents of the Stonewall magisterial district, who since our move here one year ago have been subjected to the detrimental effects of extractive mining, we state our unequivocal opposition to permitting an expansion of EM in our district. The stark contrast of the current Carmeuse operation--in all its ugliness--against the otherwise lovely rural/agricultural appearance of our area is a case study of an epic eyesore. To further expand EM as proposed would truly devastate the visual appeal of our area. Further, we already are subjected daily to quarry noise and troublesome work truck traffic on Brucetown Road, and any EM expansion will multiply these problems.

The overall effect of an expansion of EM would be enough of an impediment to our quality of life (and, unquestionably, property values) that we would have to seriously consider moving from the area.

We appreciate the opportunity to comment.

I am completely confused as to why the Planning Commission keeps soliciting Stonewall district residents opinion on additional extractive mining.

Even reflected in the summary of the 11/21 citizen workgroup included in the July 19 meeting agenda, it seems clear that district residents do not want more mining. For people who have elected the officials on the board to hear that following the voters' wishes would be "government overreach", that sure makes it sound like the Planning Commission serves the interests of business and Carmuese instead of the voters of the county.

Either the Planning Commission serves the people or it serves Carmuese. Please state clearly which group the county government is answerable to so that people can know who the government serves. This information is a critical data point in consideration for the next election.

I live in the Stonewall magisterial district and want to state that I am opposed to putting extractive mining on the NELUP that is under consideration. We currently have extractive mining on Brucetown road and it has created a massive eye sore of a mountain. Traffic has increased and it is effecting wells in the area. I have been to several meetings where citizen input is requested and the input has been no more extractive mining in the Stonewall district. It appears that what the citizens want is not being taken into consideration. Let me try to make it as clear as possible that even with the proffers being offered we DO NOT want any more extractive mining.

    Thank you,
    Lorraine
