My name is Melissa LaRue of Frederick County. I support GT Archery. The owner Mr. Teets and his wife are wonderful people and treat everyone that walks through their door as a close friend. It is family oriented and a great place to take your children to learn this skill. Mr. Teets coaches the kids on bow shooting and safety. The kids love it and are so proud of themselves as they learn and improve. Frederick County should absolutely support this business as it is a wholesome recreation that is great for our community.
I discovered GT Archery in February 2022 while trying to find an archery range to resume my training at. I am a USA Archery Level 2 Instructor and Level 2 Judge as well as a competitive archer up through the National level within USA Archery with All-American Honors in college. While I live in Martinsburg, WV and am not a registered voter in your state, I do bring tax dollars and revenue from WV to VA through my transactions at GT Archery as well as when I buy fuel and choose to have a meal in Winchester after I train.
Additionally, archery is one of very few sports that supports participation at all ages and all abilities. Archery is one of the most adaptive sports that has competitions from grade school through high school and college and on to the Olympic and ParaOlympic Games. There are professional events as well as fun recreational ones. GT Archery has a unique place in the community to provide retail and educational services to new and continuing archers. Before moving to the area, I have worked with wheelchair and vision-impaired archers as well as those with physical limitations. I have competed at events with members of Wounded Warriors clubs. GT Archery and Mr. Teets have created a welcoming and safe space for archers and those wanting to learn about archery. Combined, GT Archery and Mr. Teets are a valuable resource to Frederick County as well as the greater area.
My family and I have been going to GT Archery for many years now. My daughter has literally grown up and honed her archery skills there. She is now 10 and has been shooting there since she was a 4.
We live about 40 minutes away, shoot out of a different archery store, but GT Archery is the one shop that has a great range. They are also very professional, kind, and take the time to understand your archery needs.
GT Archery also does a lot for the future of this sport. They set up leagues throughout the year for these kids to compete and have fun. In my personal opinion it is better than sitting in front of a TV or tablet playing video games.
GT Archery gives us quality time as a family and the best part of it all is that Shawn, Ginger, and their family have become our extended family as well.
We absolutely love it there and the memories we have made are priceless. I really do hope and pray that we get to continue to make those memories for many years to come.
We found GT Archery in 2021. It was such a blessing. Mr. Teets is an expert in Archery, professional, kind and treats everyone as family. Mr. Teets wants to see everyone succeed. Mr. & Mrs. Teets taught both of my children how to shoot a bow. Archery quickly became our life! Now, our daughter has gone on to become a State, National and World Champion. She got started and continues to be supported by GT Archery. Box stores do not provide what GT Archery does. GT Archery gets youth and adults off their phones and screens! GT Archery is a necessity.
My name is Dan Kozel and I am a resident of the Shawnee District. I am in support of Mr. Teets and GT Archery. It is imperative that the community support local businesses. Especially ones that offer professional services, a safe environment, and serve the youth of this county. Mr. Teets offers services that the big box stores do not/cannot provide and exceeds customer expectations.
My name is Whit Wagner and I live at 251 Tyler Drive in Clear Brook, VA in the White Hall District. I am in favor of the GT Archery application because they provides a safe and holism recreation environment for the youth of Frederick County.
My name is Ashley Clevenger and I am a lifelong resident of Frederick County and currently reside in the Nain district. I have been affiliated with GT Archery and known Mr. Teets for almost 3 years. I am an advocate of supporting local business and so when my son became interested in archery, I found myself at GT Archery with no knowledge of where to begin. I couldn’t have gotten the same attention, professionalism and enthusiasm shown to my child at a big box store and hope to be able to continue utilizing Mr. Teet’s bow services, knowledge, and my son to attend the youth archery league. There has been a tremendous decline in the amount of time children spend outdoors, a staggering 4-7 minutes outside every day. Children ages 6-17 should be getting 60 minutes of physical activity every day, however, only 24% reach this number, according to statistics from the CDC. The amount of time children spend outdoors is directly correlated with mental, physical, and emotional well-being. Archery is growing in popularity due to the attention it receives from the Olympics as well as regional competitions. Archery is more sought after by schools due to its physical diversity and being added to curricula, therein creating a demand for beginner-friendly equipment, training, and services. The National Archery in Schools Program continues to explain the benefits of archery such as hand-eye coordination, mental acuity, strength, endurance, and multi-tasking skills. My family and I always have a positive experience every time we walk through the doors of GT Archery. I have worked with many people who work with youth and can tell when someone genuinely enjoys educating and spending quality time with them, and I have no doubt Mr. Teets is a true educator, contributor to our area and upright business owner who should be supported by Frederick County.
We are Susan and John Womack property owners of 3691 Green Spring Rd (Gainesboro) near 3641 Green Spring Rd where this outdoor archery range is being proposed which we oppose. Our reasons are as follows. First, Mr. Teets set up an open archery range in the back woods on property belonging to the houses behind him, next to him, including our property. There were animal targets everywhere, hanging tree targets, painted pathways set up for shooting long distances to simulate hunting experiences and for tournaments which meant people with bows and arrows were running through it when my husband and I walked down the trails. Second, Mr. Teets irresponsibly set up animal targets in the wooded space between 3669 and 3691 Green Spring Rd and in the front of his property near Rt. 671. As a result, we found arrows embedded in our trees, our boathouse posts, our bell post near the front of our house, and next to our mailbox on Rt. 671. But the worst one was the arrow that came through a window into our sunroom embedding itself in the window on the other side of the room just above a chair. Luckily, we were not home at the time but the enormity of the danger to us is quite real! Mr. Teets promised us that he would make sure that this never happened again and thought we had personally come to a neighborly understanding on these issues but evidently he has chosen not to honor his assurances to us because now he is wanting to set up an outdoor archery range which we do not believe will be safe even with the planned berms. Also on 9/12/23, my husband discovered two archers shooting at an animal target in the woods which indicates to us that Mr. Teets has no intention of honoring his promise about not allowing free range target shooting in the woods behind the houses. Many of the people to whom he sells bows and arrows are not experienced archers. We question the amount of supervision they are given on his outdoor ranges. Our request is not to allow any outdoor archery ranges here.
