I'm opposed to the reduction of the size of the planning commission without some further information. I understand the planning dept has looked at other localities, but no report is included as to findings. Even so, operating like another locality may or not always be best practice. I would ask the following considering a change like this:
is the size or efficiency of our planning commission a bottleneck for projects in our county?
Are we getting feedback from citizens that our planning commission size is a burden?
Are we getting feedback from staff that our planning commission size is a burden?
Why did we set the size to the current number in the first place? There must've been a reason, does that reasoning still stand?
County planning is a huge responsibility and the more eyes and expertise we have looking at the plans, the better off we'll all be, fewer inputs could result in missed analysis.
Please take some time to really think through these and other considerations before taking this step to alter this body.
