Allowing chickens to be raised in back yards of residences outside of the Agriculture zoning District. I am against allowing the raising of chickens in any areas not zoned Agriculture. The planning commission stated that allowing chickens to be raised in backyards would put pressure on existing staff. This action is a very short-sided response to higher than normal egg prices. Raising chickens will not save people money on eggs. Factoring in feed prices and the time required to raise chickens there will not be the desired effect of lowering egg prices. After the novelty of raising chickens wears off the staff are going to be receiving complaints about chicken neglect, roosters and filthy conditions as far chicken waste, also cases of bird flu. Just who should I call to report these problems when they occur? Is there going to be a chicken control department? Please don't introduce a new problem for people to fight about against their neighbors
