I am writing to express my strong support for allowing backyard chickens in our county. As a resident who is interested in sustainable living and local food production, I believe that allowing backyard chickens can have numerous benefits for our community, particularly for children.

Backyard chickens can provide a unique opportunity for children to learn about animal husbandry, which can instill a sense of responsibility and respect for animals in children. Raising chickens can be an educational experience for children, as they learn about the lifecycle of chickens, their dietary needs, and how to care for them properly. This can provide children with a hands-on learning experience that cannot be replicated in a classroom setting.

Backyard chickens can also provide a source of fresh, healthy eggs for households, promote sustainable living, and support local food production. With proper care and maintenance, backyard chickens need not be noisy or smelly. Well-designed chicken coops can effectively reduce the noise and odor associated with chickens. Furthermore, implementing sensible regulations, such as limiting the number of chickens per household and ensuring that coops are properly maintained, can help minimize any potential smell or noise.

There is evidence to suggest that a well-maintained chicken coop can actually increase the value of a property, as it can be seen as an attractive and desirable feature for those interested in sustainable living and local food production.

I strongly believe that allowing backyard chickens can have numerous benefits for our community, particularly for children, while still addressing concerns about odor, noise, and property value. With sensible regulations and ensuring that coops are properly maintained, the many benefits of backyard chickens can be enjoyed without any negative impact on the community. I urge the board of supervisors to consider allowing backyard chickens.

    Your humble citizen,
